Network Marketing Realities

Network marketing is considered to be a medium which is making millionaires in this day and age. It is a way for people to earn money from home in their own home based business. What are the realities of this business? It is considered as recession proof and does well in a bad economy. The idea of multi-level marketing (MLM), which is the original name for this industry, is to sign up distributors under you and for everyone to buy products from the company. These people and the people signed up by them become your downline. The person who got you into the business and the people above him are your upline. People are rewarded for the volume of product sold under them.
The promise and potential of riches probably bring in thousands of people every week into the various network marketing companies in existence. Yet the reality is that an estimated 98% of people never find any measurable success in these businesses, and most network marketing companies which start up will fail. Part of that reality is that it can be an extremely difficult business unless you are a leader. It is not easy for most people.
Leaders in network marketing do certain things:
- Study and learn about the networking business, their company, and the product
- Learn about what it takes to be a success
- Practice improving themselves to become better leaders
- Make goals and review them regularly
- Care about other people and their needs
- Determine to be a success and work hard
- Don’t quit before success is achieved (unless a company is discovered to be bad)
We have heard of people who drill for oil and quit when they were so close to a gusher. There is also the story of the gold miners who called it quits just before they got to the gold vein so someone who came later got to the gold quickly.
The two or three percent of those who become truly wealthy in this industry are the leaders. People who are already successful in other fields of endeavor are often the ones who do the best. Sales people, doctors, dentists, attorneys, and business owners are getting into network marketing businesses to supplement their income. Some of these successful people have seen their income dwindle in these hard economic times, and they are using this method to earn more money.
It is possible to be successful in this industry. Prospects who are recruited into the business need to realize that it takes hard work to earn the large amounts of money which are possible. It may be the answer to the problems people face, but it takes a big effort. People sign up with high hopes, but most are not helped by their upline as much as they expected. The upline is usually available for three way calls and conference calls, but the distributor is the one who ultimately needs to be the contact person for the recruit. He is the person responsible for his own success.
Look at what the leaders are doing, and follow their example. To be successful in network marketing, it takes caring and sharing, learning and growing, and a commitment to never quit until your goals have been attained.
