Internet Marketing – The Secret Behind Special Reports

Good Day,

Today I would like to discuss not only the “why” but the “how” of creating a special report. For most internet marketers with some experience under their belts, this is what we would call a no-brainer. Right? How many special reports have you downloaded lately? If you’re like me, you can’t resist some free information so you grab them like a baby taking candy!

Why  are they so popular? The answer may not be obvious, but if you think about it you will realize that there is a “viral” element to these reports. That is the most important element to them, since you can give them away for free and they get passed around forever! Since the link (or links) to your website are embedded all over the place, the chances that someone will check out your website are pretty high.

Another reason they are so popular is they are a great way to build an online reputation for free. If you can write a free report about your topic, whatever that may be, and it helps your audience in their quest for more knowledge about that topic, you have gained another faithful fan. How much is that worth to you? Quite a bit, believe me. Building a reputation online is no easy task, but if you can give away some free information that people really enjoy reading, you are way ahead of the pack.

If that isn’t enough, you have the benefit of using the special report as “bait” to get folks to sign up for your ezine or newsletter, too. As I said before, most people who are looking for more information about a topic can’t resist something for free, so just signing up for your free newsletter to get a free “special report” is obviously no big commitment on their part. I have built up a nice list using this technique, and it is the staple of many other internet marketers as well. In fact, I dare say it is probably the best technique for building a list out there!

Alright – I have you convinced you need to create a special report on your topic, right? I can hear you now “where do I start, I’m not a writer”. Rubbish! Anyone can learn to write a nifty little report about a topic they are familiar with, right? That’s most likely why you chose your topic in the first place, because you are somewhat of an expert in it. Besides, you only need about 30-50 pages or so for it to be a sufficient beginners guide to your information product.

Some are even less, depending on the topic of course. If your topic is something fairly light and easily explained without going into great detail, sometimes only 20-25 pages is a good start.

The main point is you want to create interest in your product, the one you are promoting. So if you can explain the topic in an interesting, attention-getting way that will provide the reader enough information to create a curiosity for more, you have done your job! Using a catchy or attention grabbing title is also recommended, such as:

Ok, that’s a little over the top but you get the idea, right? Make your special report really sound “special” and people will knock themselves out to download and read it. If it really provides some information they can use, you have done your job and they will probably visit your website! And tell their friends to, too.
